Under Armour Lacrosse Line

30 08 2011

So with UA getting into the gear side of things I think all the major players are at the table. Lets recap: Nike, Reebok, Adidas, New Balance (Brine/Warrior), and now Under Armour. The only one missing on this list is Puma… but I don’t think that will ever happen. With the huge influx of corporate companies producing lacrosse gear we know as a sport we are well on our way. However, we also know that some of these major brands don’t really get our sport and put out some questionable products too. So lets have a quick look at what UA is offering us for 2012,  to me it appears we have some really great gear to look forward to, but you can judge for yourself.

STX 2012 Preview

19 07 2011

Here is a little look at some of the new product lines coming out for STX for 2012. The emphasis this season was mostly on small tweaks and color options. The new Cell 2 line is a great example, which has some very good updates such as the lower profile elbow protection on the arm guards, and the no slip liners inside of all the arm protection. It also now comes in forest green, gold, and maroon.

The Jolt is their new mid range protection line. This equipment seems durable and protective without breaking the bank. I was most impressed with the palm used in the Jolt glove; it seemed on par with a lot of other gloves in higher price ranges.

STX is releasing a new shaft line this season called Alliance. The idea behind the technology is that the material flexes when force is applied. The stiffer the shaft the less flex, the less stiff the more flex. So the Alliance comes in 3 different flavors 85, 135, and 160 (pounds of pressure needed to move the shaft 1/4 inch). These flexes can help maximize velocity and snap on shots, precision on feeds, improved control and ball feel when handling. Bigger guys will want to rock the 160, while the other two shafts are for the more common player, but you will want to get your hands on one and play around with it before deciding which one is best for you (Look for these in our shooting cage in Portland soon).

So lets get to some photos:

Old School Again

7 04 2011

So we ran a spot on old school steez a little while ago.

http://bigfootlax.wordpress.com/2010/12/15/old-school-is-back/

Today I was looking over at Lax All Stars (laxallstars.com) “Show us your Old School” and what did I see? Some seriously nice old school coming out of Portland. Check out these sick nasty laxers…. Maybe one is your dad? Or just an old friend you have forgotten about? Pretty sure some of the pics in the middle are from the University of Oregon Ducks.

Reader Rick Sheinin couldn’t stop himself from sharing these iconic Old School pictures from Oregon’s lacrosse past, as well as some great shots of his dad suited up and kicking it Old School. (Editor’s note: his isn’t Rick’s first rodeo!)

Who’s Next?

30 03 2011

So I have to apologize to any readers outside of Oregon for this one, but we are an Oregon based company… That being said please add a comment below to add to the conversation for player in your neck of the woods.

Pat Rogers/Denver Vs. Syarcuse

Oregon is not really on the radar for most NCAA scouts. They aren’t chomping at the bit to get out to OREGUN to recruit their next freshman stud. That being said we do produce some high quality athletes. Just read the previous post and you will see what I mean. So in the past few years Oregon has sent some of our boys to quality programs: Peter Baum Colgate, Aaron Prosser Drexel, Pat Rogers Denver, Andy Fish Albany, Nate Fritz Bowdoin, and of course Connor Martin, although an MCLA player still a supreme baller playing in the pro ranks now.  These are just a few names that pop into my mind, sorry if I left any of you off the list, I know there are more of you out there doing great things.

So the question has to be asked, who’s next? What seniors are going break out and make an impact on an NCAA D1 team? An even better question is who is the dark horse that no one sees coming? Drop us some comments on this below.

Local Talent on Tewaaraton Watch List

16 03 2011

Peter Baum a Lincoln High School alum, and Under Armour All American has now landed himself a spot on the Tewaaraton watch list for 2011. With a sluggish start to 2011 many thought defenses had sniffed out Baum after having a stellar freshman showing. But the sophomore has found his stride and already has 19 goals and 4 assists on the season. Keep your eyes on this kid as he is only getting better.

Here is what Inside Lacrosse had to say about lacrosse’s most prestigious award:

This annual list is made up of the top lacrosse players across all three divisions of collegiate lacrosse and highlights the early hopefuls for the 2011 Tewaaraton Award honors. All watch list nominees are carefully screened and identified by two Selection Committees, one committee for the male athletes and another committee for the female athletes which are comprised of college coaches. The watch list will eventually be whittled down three more times until the top ten male and female Tewaaraton Award Finalists are named in May of 2011.

“We are thrilled to announce this year’s watch list just as the 2011 season is getting underway,” said Robert Sweeney, President of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance. “The selection committees have done an outstanding job at choosing the top contenders for the Tewaaraton Award across the country. This year’s list represents 47 different educational institutions from over 17 conferences and 48 of these athletes are repeat nominees from last year.”

The Tewaaraton Award was formally established in August of 2000 by The University Club of Washington, DC and is the pre-eminent lacrosse award, which is awarded annually to the NCAA male and female lacrosse players of the year. Tradition dictates that each year the Tewaaraton Award celebrates one of the six tribal nations of the Iroquois Confederacy: the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca, and the Tuscarora. The 11th annual Tewaaraton Award event is set to recognize the Year of the Tuscarora.

The 11th annual Tewaaraton Award will be presented on June 2, 2011 at the historical Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. Event details and ticket information can be found at TewaaratonAward.org.
